Guangdong Industrial Belts: Which City Makes What

Most sourcing advice is written as if China were one factory. It is not — it is a set of clusters, and in Guangdong the clusters are close enough together that the choice of belt is the single biggest decision you make before price. This is the working map.
The rule behind the map. A belt forms where a product's supply chain is dense enough that a factory can buy its inputs by driving twenty minutes. That density fixes three things at once: the price band, the quality ceiling and how fast a sample can be made. When a quote looks wrong, it is usually because the factory is in the wrong belt for that product.
Zhongshan — lighting. Guzhen in Zhongshan is the lighting capital: thousands of factories and trading houses plus the component layer (drivers, lamp holders, glass, plating) in the same streets. Sampling is measured in days, and finishes are the MOQ driver rather than the product itself.
Foshan — furniture, ceramics, building materials. Shunde and Longjiang manufacture the furniture; Lecong sells it from showrooms measured in millions of square metres. Chancheng and Nanzhuang fire tiles and sanitary ware, Dali extrudes the aluminium behind doors, windows and furniture frames. Volumetric cargo — container maths decides design.
Dongguan — electronics, moulds, contract furniture. The precision-hardware and injection-moulding layer of the delta, with Houjie furniture and Humen apparel alongside. If your product needs a tool, this is where the tooling cost is lowest and the tolerances are best documented.
Guangzhou — apparel, leather, beauty, wholesale. The trading city: Shisanhang and Shahe apparel, Shiling leather goods, Baiyun cosmetics, Yongfu auto parts, and the markets that will sell you 200 pieces when the factory minimum is 2,000.
Shenzhen — electronics and smart devices. Design, engineering and component access, with production capacity an hour away in Dongguan and Huizhou. The place where pilot runs of a few hundred units are actually possible.
Jiangmen — sanitary ware and audio. Kaiping and Heshan make faucets and showers; Enping makes microphones. Adjacent to Foshan, which is why bathroom packages usually come out of these two belts together.
Chaozhou — ceramics and sanitary ware. The porcelain city: tableware, decorative ceramics and a sanitary-ware industry priced below Foshan. Heavy and fragile — packing determines whether it arrives.
Shantou — toys and gifts. Chenghai is one of the world's largest toy clusters. Safety testing is decided at design stage; the belt peaks from August to October, so Christmas programmes are booked in June.
Jieyang and Yangjiang — hardware and blades. Jieyang for stainless kitchenware, hardware and plastics at very competitive prices; Yangjiang for knives, scissors and multi-tools, vertically integrated from steel to packaging.
Zhaoqing and Huizhou — materials and mixed manufacturing. Zhaoqing supplies building materials, aluminium and castings for project work; Huizhou adds furniture, women's footwear and battery products.
How to use this. Name the product first, then the belt, then the supplier — not the other way round. A good factory in the wrong belt will quote you either too high or cheaply in a way that shows up in the inspection report. If you are not sure which belt your product belongs to, that is a five-minute question with a sourcing agent and an expensive one to learn by trial.
