Shantou's Chenghai district is one of the largest toy and gift manufacturing bases in the world — plastic toys, educational toys, remote-control models, party and seasonal goods, and the packaging that goes with them. The city also prints and packs at scale, and Chaonan supplies the knitwear and underwear that make up a second industrial pillar.

• Toy safety is the whole game. Age grading, small-part testing, phthalate limits and EN71/ASTM/CPSIA testing are decided at design stage, and a failure at destination costs the entire shipment.
• Battery-operated toys add transport rules (UN38.3, MSDS) and often cost more to ship than to make — check the freight before finalising a design.
• Licensed characters require the licence to be in place before artwork; unlicensed look-alikes get destroyed at customs and there is no insurance for that.
• Chenghai is strong on low-to-mid price bands but thin on premium finish. If your channel needs premium presentation, budget for better tooling and packaging.

Cargo ships via Shantou with feeder connections to Shenzhen and Hong Kong, or overland to Yantian. Toy season peaks from August to October; production slots for Christmas programmes should be booked by June.
