Two-drawer nightstands as received at the consolidation warehouse
As received. The lot on the dock before anything is opened — counted against the packing list and checked for carton damage first, because a claim on transit damage has to be raised before the goods are moved.
Two-drawer nightstands — Opened on our floor
Opened on our floor. The first carton of the lot is opened in full. One unit is assembled or powered up as the client will use it, and compared against the approved sample rather than against the catalogue photograph.
Two-drawer nightstands — Fittings and hardware
Fittings and hardware. Hardware, fixings and loose components are checked against the parts list before the carton is resealed — a missing bag of fittings is a return on arrival, not a spare part.
Two-drawer nightstands — Documentation and loose components
Documentation and loose components. Everything that travels loose inside the carton is checked here, including the assembly documentation: a sheet the end customer cannot read is a support ticket for the client.

Photographs taken at our consolidation warehouse as the lot was received and checked. Container numbers, shipping labels, supplier marks and brand markings are masked; the lot is shown as it arrived, not restyled.

How this order was run

  1. Priced the order against Foshan (Shunde / Lecong) makers on the same specification, and separated unit price from packing so the comparison was like for like.
  2. Agreed the carton specification in writing before production — carton grade and insert design are where a landed cost quietly moves.
  3. Consolidated the lot at the warehouse so it left as one release rather than as separate supplier drops.

What was checked at receiving

This is the nightstands check sheet — the same list every order in this category goes through before the container is released.

  • Panel thickness and edge banding measured against the approved sample — banding that lifts at a corner is the first thing to fail in transit
  • Board moisture content read at incoming; panels above roughly 12% held back from the shipment
  • One unit assembled out of the production flat pack, so hole positions and cam fittings are proven on production parts rather than on a pre-production sample
  • Back panel, shelf pins, doors and drawers operated on every unit in the inspection set
  • Surface inspected under raking light for sanding marks, scratches and colour variation across the lot

How it was packed

  • Five-layer carton with corner protectors and edge foam
  • Flat-packed where the design allows, to cut cube on the ocean leg
  • Hardware bagged and taped to a marked panel so it cannot go missing in the box
  • Carton marked with model, quantity and a handling pictogram set

The note

Board furniture fails at the joints and the edges. A unit that assembles cleanly on the factory floor can still split at a cam fitting after a month of container humidity — which is why the moisture reading and the edge banding check matter more than how the sample looked.

It is the reason this category is checked unit by unit rather than carton by carton: the defect that matters is inside the box, and it does not announce itself until the end customer is holding an Allen key.
