Office desk, gold frame with black top as received at the consolidation warehouse
As received. The lot on the dock before anything is opened — counted against the packing list and checked for carton damage first, because a claim on transit damage has to be raised before the goods are moved.
Office desk, gold frame with black top — Opened on our floor
Opened on our floor. The first carton of the lot is opened in full. One unit is assembled or powered up as the client will use it, and compared against the approved sample rather than against the catalogue photograph.
Office desk, gold frame with black top — Fittings and hardware
Fittings and hardware. Hardware, fixings and loose components are checked against the parts list before the carton is resealed — a missing bag of fittings is a return on arrival, not a spare part.
Office desk, gold frame with black top — Documentation and loose components
Documentation and loose components. Everything that travels loose inside the carton is checked here, including the assembly documentation: a sheet the end customer cannot read is a support ticket for the client.

Photographs taken at our consolidation warehouse as the lot was received and checked. Container numbers, shipping labels, supplier marks and brand markings are masked; the lot is shown as it arrived, not restyled.

How this order was run

  1. Worked the list back to the Foshan (Shunde / Lecong) factories that hold the tooling and the finish in house, and dropped two candidates whose quotes did not survive a price-pattern check.
  2. Ran the first unit off the line through the full check sheet before bulk started, and corrected the packing rather than the product.
  3. Held the balance of payment until the inspection set had been opened and photographed on our floor.

What was checked at receiving

This is the office desk check sheet — the same list every order in this category goes through before the container is released.

  • Leg splay and twist checked with the unit standing on a flat reference — a table that rocks at the factory will rock on the client's floor
  • Load applied to the top and to the apron joints, at the point where the leg meets the frame
  • Finish checked on the top under raking light, and on the underside and inner faces where factories economise
  • Glass and stone tops inspected for chips at the edge and measured for thickness before packing
  • Height and footprint verified against the approved drawing, not against the catalogue photograph

How it was packed

  • Top wrapped in foam and corner-boarded, boxed separately from the base where the design allows
  • Legs and stretchers bagged with the hardware and taped inside the main carton
  • Glass or stone packed in its own crate with a foam gasket on all four edges
  • One carton per lot dropped and stack-tested before the container closes

The note

Tables fail on the top surface and on the leg joint. Both are visible on arrival and both are the client's most expensive complaint — a replacement top usually means a second shipment, not a second part.

It is why a table order is inspected standing up, on a flat floor, with the top loaded — the three things a factory photograph never shows.
